YOUNGSTERS have benefitted from new play equipment thanks to a £10,000 grant from Tesco. The Springfield Community Park in Skeeby, near Richmond, had suffered from decaying swings and tired equipment – and parents wanted to inject new life into the park.
The grant from Tesco’s Bags of Help campaign has provided a new DDA Friendly play equipment that includes the Sturdy Basket Swing, Sturdy Flying Saucer and a Frog sit-in springer.
Skeeby Parish Council is delighted with the new park, and villagers celebrated the success of a project that has seen a tired, old play park being turned into a community park fit for a royal party as the work was completed in the nick of time to mark the Queen’s 90th birthday celebrations on Sunday, June 12.
Scores of people turned out to celebrate the revamp, as children enjoyed the new equipment and neighbours got together for a barbecue. Bernard Metcalfe, parish councillor and chairman of the play parks committee, said: “As a Skeeby resident for more than 40 years, my children, grandchildren, and residents old and new will continue to have hours of enjoyment in our new park.”
Two items of Fitness Equipment were also installed following another successful grant application.
